Job Description:

Legal Counselor

Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE

Advise executive management and project teams on contract administration, project risk and remedies and liaise with project management consultants, internal project directors and senior commercial managers to analyse and provide direction and advice on contractual issues affecting projects and providing legal sign-off on contract documentation, project correspondence and employer instructions
Analyzing contractor claims for extensions of time and variations and providing strategic advice to executive management and project teams.
Provide or procure practical and relevant professional advice and/or legal analysis to general legal queries or documents received from other departments to ensure compliance with the applicable laws and regulations and mitigation of any legal risks as a result of such compliance.
Draft and advise on bespoke construction contract conditions (including FIDIC Red, Yellow, Silver and Gold Books) and professional appointments in respect of various building and infrastructure projects.
Advise on contract addenda and amendments to reflect project requirements.
Draft, proof-read, review, summarize, amend, customize and update legal documents and templates such as contracts, agreements, reports and general correspondence to ensure that departments and business units within the company employ/utilize the optimum form of legal documents to suit and achieve their business goals and objectives.
Provide support to other departments and business units within the company to ensure that the legal effects of documents employed/utilized are clearly understood.
Advise on project related final account settlements.
Support the negotiation of legal documents relating to attain the best possible outcome for the company whilst maximizing mitigation of risk- commercial and legal.
Support the negotiation of settlements in disputes with third parties to attain the best possible result for the company whilst maximizing mitigation of risks. Provide assistance in the negotiation of transactions requiring the external lawyer’s attention and involvement.
Liaise with the relevant governmental authorities to prepare, submit and follow up on various applications and transactions as required by the various departments and business within the company and its affiliates including but not limited to licensing, trademark, NOC and company registration applications.
Liaise with the relevant courts in the UAE in relation to any legal proceedings (civil or criminal) and assisting in the drafting and submission of pleading, memos, applications, powers of attorney, etc.
Manage relationship with external vendors (including suppliers of legal services) and verifying invoices received to ensure that details are correct, legible and correspond to budget allowances, LPO and related attachments.
Support the development and implementation of the department policies, processes and procedures to ensure fulfillment of legislative requirements and alignment to operations.
Fulfill any other related duties or assignments as directed.

Minimum Education:
University Graduate Level.

Minimum Qualification:
Licensed to practice as a lawyer/advocate/solicitor in any of the following countries:
– United Kingdom
– Australia
– Canada
– South Africa

Minimum Experience:
At least 5 years of solid legal work experience in the following field:
a. Construction and Engineering

At least 2 years of the mandatory work experience in an in-house role.
Relevant UAE work experience.
