Entity: Network of English Language Enhancement

The Network of English Language Enhancement (ELE_net) is part of the Office of the Provost. It was established in September 2014 to provide effective solutions for the enhancement of English language skills across AKU.
ELE_net functions as a distributed network. This means that it works closely with other parts of the University to identify English language needs and find effective solutions. Sometimes ELE_net is directly involved in designing and delivering English courses and at other times it works with partners to do this.


You will be responsible for:
carrying out English language needs assessments for a variety of client groups
designing English language programmes to meet the needs of different client groups within and outside AKU
coordinating the delivery of English language courses and support provision, including the recruitment and induction of teachers
conducting required quality assurance and enhancement procedures, including teaching observations and the production of course reports with evidence-based recommendations for improvements
developing and conducting assessments as required, and monitoring progress made by students in their English language skills
making effective use of Moodle and other online technologies to deliver online courses and support face-to-face courses
assisting in the development of online and paper-based self-access materials to support student learning outside the classroom
carrying out teaching and administrative duties as required
representing ELE_net in work-related meetings, visits etc
conducting workshops on English language training for faculty, students and staff engaging in relevant professional development activities.


You should have:

a Master’s degree in English Language or Applied Linguistics from a HEC recognized institution with a recognized qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) or equivalent
at least three years’ of relevant teaching experience preferably gained in a higher education context
high level of competence in English language (equivalent to C1 and above in the Common European Framework of Reference), especially in academic and professional contexts
high level of knowledge and understanding of English language systems (morphology, phonology, syntax etc.)
up to date knowledge of TESOL methodologies and practice, especially for adult learning in academic contexts
high level of competence as a TEFL classroom practitioner
experience of and skills in using eLearning approaches to language teaching and learning
ability to manage and allocate resources in an effective way
ability to establish and develop effective working relations with colleagues and external clients
understanding of quality assurance requirements in higher education and English language teaching contexts
excellent administrative skills
an ability to work independently and as part of a distributed network team
proficiency in MS Office and other related IT applications.
