Job Description:

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative to Pakistan and under the technical guidance of the Rural Infrastructure and Agro-industries Division (AGS) and the direct supervision of the FAO Project Manager (GCP/PAK/115/EC)

- Co-ordinate the project’s activities related to Farm Machinery pools with FAO district officers, FAO’s implementing partners and Community Organisations and farmers’ groups.

- Assist the FAO district officers and implementing partners in the selection of the COs.

- In collaboration with the project’s Agronomist and district Co-ordinators, develop strategies for the effective and sustainable delivery of Farm Machinery pools through a farmer association approach. The internal rules of the associations must match business standards to warranty the sustainability of the Farm Machinery groups.

- Assist FAO officers, FAO’s implementing partners, Community Organisations and farmers’ groups to undertake feasibility studies, prepare business plans, review market price for Farm Machinery services and establish Farm Machinery pools.

- In collaboration with the FAO Logistics Specialist and FAO’s implementing partners, support the procurement activities and the delivery of agricultural machines/implements to final locations.

- Support the training activities for staff from Implementing Partners and/or Departments of Agriculture, farmers groups and COs in relation with Farm Machinery activities, in particular the operation and maintenance of such agricultural implements, their management in the framework of machinery pools and the administrative issues at the farmers’ associations.

- Visit and support the FAO district officers in the implementation of the farm machinery component of the project. Prepare all necessary documents for the supervision and monitoring of the FARM Machinery groups. Provide recommendations to FAO district officers and implementing partners in relation to farm machinery activities, in particular regarding the management of the Farm Machinery pools and the operations/maintenance of the machines.

- Supervise/monitor the Farm Machinery Groups and propose and implement solutions in case of technical/management issues in the Farm Machinery groups.

- Liaise and report to AGS when required.

- Implement any other activities requested by the Project Manager in relation to the Farm Machinery activities.

Reporting: technical bulletins; training schedules; activity annual work plans and cost estimates; monthly progress statements; quarterly activity progress reports; monitoring reports; an end of assignment report.
